Tell Premier Ford to instruct Metrolinx to seriously consider and determine the costing for the underground option that the community prefers. Do ask for a response.
Dear Premier Ford,
I am writing to strongly recommend that your government direct Metrolinx to look seriously at our community’s preferred proposal to put the Ontario Line underground between Gerrard St E and East Harbour.
The list of problems caused by the Metrolinx above-ground plan includes environmental damage, negative health outcomes, loss of important green space, serious noise and vibration issues and numerous other impacts that are unacceptable.
It is quite untenable that the province and Metrolinx are seriously considering an above-ground design in an old, densely built & populated inner-city neighbourhood with narrow streets and limited green spaces, especially at the same time as an additional $1.8 B is to be spent on putting the Eglinton W line underground in conditions that are well-suited to an above-ground alignment.
Toronto City Council has asked Metrolinx to “review the feasibility of the proposed hybrid Ontario Line developed by the local community from the Don River to Gerrard Street which maintains the at-grade station at East Harbour and creates a portal to underground the line immediately to the east of the station through the South of Eastern employment area and moves the Ontario Line station to Queen and Carlaw in Leslieville immediately.”. We agree completely with this motion.
While we support public transit, our community wants and deserves a better option than the current Metrolinx plan. We want the Ontario Line to be underground!
Please respond to let me know how you will address this.
